Visited for the first time last week, and we will be back! Such a gem out in the woods, ask to be in the patio area and you will see deer and ducks and huge old trees right out the window. The regular dining room was rather packed at 6:30 and the patio was empty and quiet. It does have open doors to the bar, but we could only hear that Terry wanted Pinot Grigio and got Sauv Blanc instead. Was still happy. The food was excellent, even if the steaks were leaning more toward medium than mid rare. Nice fresh salad, one of the better French onion soups we’ve had, and a decent wine list! Speaking of... our only complaint was that our server brought out our bottle with glasses that were SO dirty, proceeded to pour wine and try to take them away when we noticed/mentioned. Then she went to retrieve clean ones- but we didn’t know we had to wait for a complete dishwasher cycle only to have HOT wine glasses arrive. (What?!) We had to pour water in to cool them off before swapping out the old gross ones. When everything else is so nice here, maybe a crash course in clean glassware should be a thing for all front of house. You have great wine glasses- they should be clean and polished and ready to go before dinner service. We also almost got a filthy steak knife too, but she caught that one.

TLDR: Excellent food made with high quality ingredients (they use lard instead of veggie oils for frying, for example), great service, great cocktails, very good prices for what they offer. --- Wife and I are foodies. Have been since college. We both really enjoy a good meal from a quality restaurant, especially as a couples stress reliever when we have tumultuous weeks. Gives us a great chance to sit back, dig into well made dishes and cocktails and chat. Wherever we live we have a go-to "comfort restaurant", our default for 90% of our food dates. Can't say we're all that adventurous. We try a bunch of restaurants, find one we like the most, and spend our time and money there when we're feeling a date night In San Antonio that was J-Prime Steakhouse. We couldn't go all frequently because the meals between the both of us were usually about 400 before tip, but that's where we went to be served like royalty and given food of the same quality. We've been trying to find our "regular" place since we moved to Michigan, and while we found a few good sushi places, some nice Italian and steak houses, and a few bars nothing really hit the spot until we started regularly going to Timberline. I went there as a kid a few times so it wasn't anything super new to me, but until I had the opportunity to enjoy big city 4-star places like J Prime, I didn't really appreciate how high quality Timberline was. Not even kidding, it's the same caliber. We ordered two appetizers, one drink, two sides, and two entrees, same as we got at J-Prime, but instead of costing us 400, we didn't even top 100. That's how high the cost value is here. The steaks are just as good, appetizers equally tasty, house cheese BETTER, pasta as savory, seafood is BETTER, drinks are maybe a littttttle better at J-prime but Timberline is still better than anything else up here, and service is top notch. In fact today, the chef recognized me and sent me home with a slice of my favorite pie on the house (and yes, was going to make a post BEFORE the pie, I will not be bribed by coconut cream pie ). But seriously, a chef that remembers me AND my favorite pie? That's the kind of stuff that sets a place apart. I kinda discovered that this became our go-to tonight because I realized I've been back about 4 times in the last six weeks . That's usually how it goes for us; we don't make a conscious choice, our bellies take the wheel we we're just along for the ride. Well we keep arriving at Timberline, and seems like that's gonna be the comfortable regular food date trend from now on

My family has been going to Timberline forever, one of my favorite places! Hopefully we will be getting up there this weekend. The twice baked potato is my favorite. Great drinks as well!

Amazing place, wonderful service! The place is a classic American restaurant. It is a local institution. My parents had their rehearsal dinner there in 1968
